Tulbagh is justly famous for its scenic beauty in every season of the year and relaxed country living - supported by every convenience required by the discerning tourist.
On the 29th September 1969, the quietness of night was shattered at 22h05 by tremendous explosive sounds followed by a gigantic roaring, rumbling noise rolling forward like the waves of a stormy sea. Stupefied people rushed outside over broken glass and fallen plaster. The mountains surrounding Tulbagh resembled a city of lights as falling rocks acted like flints on the tinder-dry vegetation and started fires.

Silwerfontein Guest Farm is 16km outside of Tulbagh behind Voelvlei Dam between Hermon & Gouda. • Self-catering Cottages SELF-CATERING COTTAGES Our cosy self-catering farm style cottages are situated in a Mandela sanctioned Natural Heritage Site Conservancy Area with spectacular views over the 7km long Voëlvlei Dam, only 1 hours drive from Cape Town. The cottages are private, neat and clean with bedding and all kitchen necessities included, but please bring your own towels. Solar energy powers the lights and additional oil lamps/candles add to the ambience. It is recommended that you bring a torch with for outside at night. HIKING INFORMATION • Safe parking is provided at the Base Camp after signing in at the Silwerfontein Farmhouse. FRESHWATER ANGLING A permit needs to be obtained from the Farmhouse at Silwerfontein - a permit holder shall be in possession of a valid angling license (inland water). Will even braai your fish for you the evening. Bring only your own picnic.
