Tulbagh - The Earthquake

On the 29th September 1969, the quietness of night was shattered at 22h05 by tremendous explosive sounds followed by a gigantic roaring, rumbling noise rolling forward like the waves of a stormy sea. Stupefied people rushed outside over broken glass and fallen plaster. The mountains surrounding Tulbagh resembled a city of lights as falling rocks acted like flints on the tinder-dry vegetation and started fires.

Panorama Private Campsite, Tulbagh

p1040020 Come and enjoy the privacy and quiet of an unique and individual campsite next to a dam with spectacular views over the entire Tulbagh valley and far beyond.

High up on the slopes of the Klein Winterhoek Mountain our two private campsites have thick green lawn, each with its own braai/campfire-place, a shower and a toilet. Our Main Camp, Vuurvliegie, has a fully equiped kitchen for 12 people. Our Bush Camp, Toktokkie, only has a open stoep with a basin and a working area.
A memorable lookout spot is within easy walking distance of the campsite and for the really energetic there is a hiking trail to the top of the mountain. You need a 4 x 4 to wind through the orchards up to the campsite as well as the lookout spot. For the adventurous people at our main camp we have a "foefie-slide" into the dam for free. And do not forget about bird watching!
Overnight accommodation in a rondavel adjacent to the farmhouse is available. (Double bed, shower and toilet and coffee & tea facilities.)
