Tulbagh - The Earthquake

On the 29th September 1969, the quietness of night was shattered at 22h05 by tremendous explosive sounds followed by a gigantic roaring, rumbling noise rolling forward like the waves of a stormy sea. Stupefied people rushed outside over broken glass and fallen plaster. The mountains surrounding Tulbagh resembled a city of lights as falling rocks acted like flints on the tinder-dry vegetation and started fires.

Christmas in Winter

Tulbagh celebrates Christmas in Winter. In true festive spirit the village is decorated with lights and Christmas trees and Father Christmas rides through the streets with treats for the children. Enjoy traditional Christmas Fare at one of the local restaurants or browse the arts and crafts stalls in Church Street. Enjoy a leisurely drive through the scenic valley and visit the wine estates for wine tasting and other activities. Don't miss out on the theatre or dance till you drop at the Rock with Santa Party.
